Excuse Me for Hurting

You’re going through something they don’t understand.

Without compassion, there’s no way that they can.

Not that you need their stamp of approval

to merely exist as an individual.

They don’t think to consider how it must feel

to endure a heartache awful and surreal.

It is possible to make anguish look painless.

Only the astute can identify with this pretense.

It’s a gracious way of managing misery

to minimize the ripple effect peripherally.

They pour salt on the wounds of those who are mournful,

not realizing their misjudgments are harmful.

They should redirect their scrutinization

to areas where it may be advantageous,

such as a courthouse or their reflection

instead of hurting underdogs with their deflection.
